Watch PMQs LIVE as Louise Haigh stands in for Andy Burnham

Louise Haigh will face questions instead of Andy Burnham in the Commons today. Ms Haigh, who is the First Secretary of State, is Mr Burnham's de facto deputy. The Prime Minister is still in Antigua meeting leaders of the Commonwealth, where he says he plans to "reach out and listen" to the countries asking Britain for financial compensation for its role in the slave trade. Andy Burnham said he was "open" to discussions around an official apology from the UK but believes reparations are not the answer, instead pushing for UK aid spending to be redirected. The Foreign Secretary has attempted to fend off critics of the plans, insisting British taxpayers will not pay a penny more as a result of the prime minister's “new approach” to the Commonwealth. Meanwhile, the Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, has defended her decision to ease immigration restrictions for those seeking permanent settlement in the UK, saying the revised plans would still prevent large numbers of people from claiming benefits. Under her initial proposals, lower-qualified workers who arrived on health and social care visas during the “Boriswave” from 2022 could have been made to wait 15 years for permanent settlement. After pressure from Labour figures, she has now revised her policy so foreign care workers who meet their visa conditions and earn at least £25,000 a year will now only have to wait five years. ------------- For more of the biggest news stories in the UK and around the world, visit the ITV News YouTube channel: http://bit.ly/2lOHmNj   • Subscribe to ITV News In Full on YouTube:    / @itvnewsinfull    • Get breaking news and more stories at: http://www.itv.com/news   • Follow ITV News on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@itvnews?lang=... • Follow ITV News on Instagram:   /      • Follow ITV News on Facebook:   /      • Follow ITV News on X:   / itvnews
