Pada Varnam Ragam : Charukeshi

One of my cherished Choreographies , this Varnam celebrates a decade of its Choreography. Performed it first in 2013 . The nayika is longing for a re- union with Lord Krishna who acts indifferent and strange. He seems to be in love with other women of his choice. In the charanam ,the heroine compares herself with the ' kadal alai '- waves of the ocean during a high tide ,in constant effort to touch the moon . Prelude to the Varnam is a verse from Andal 's Naachiyaar Tirumozhi ( The cut in the video is regretted) Approach of the choreography: Krishna here is envisaged as a lover of nature and its beings. Thus the nayika finds solace in the company of the cows protected by the divine cow- herd . Thus embracing one of the cows becomes equivalent to embracing the Supreme.
