On the 13th of June 2026 a fine winter's day in Palmerston North I decided to take my E Bike over to Ashhurst and try out the brand-new 10.5km Shared User Path alongside Te Ahu a Turanga: Manawatū Tararua Highway which offers a breathtaking journey across the Ruahine Ranges, designed for both walkers and cyclists. Once there I parked at the main parking area which was pretty full and was lucky to find a parking spot, obviously a very popular spot for a lot of people. Once I figured out the starting point I set off from the impressive Parahaki Bridge and onto the Shared User Path which follows the highway road and at several points it even weaves away from it. The bike ride was awesome and the views were spectacular.
