THE WHOLE VILLAGE CAME ALIVE 🌿❤️ Unseen Side Of Our African Life 🔥 Celebrating New Yam Festival

🌿❤️ WELCOME TO A VERY SPECIAL DAY IN OUR VILLAGE! ❤️🌿 Today, we take you deep into our community for one of the most beautiful and important celebrations of the year — the New Yam Festival! This was not just another day in the village. It was a day of culture, family, food, music, dancing, storytelling, tradition and community, as families from across the village came together to celebrate the harvest of the new yam. Our day began very early in the morning under a heavy rain. The rain had started during the night and continued into the morning, giving the village a beautiful and peaceful atmosphere. Onyii walked to his brother’s house, where he met Chisom washing his father’s clothes while our African village mum, Ebere, was busy packaging pap. It was also a special day for little Chidiogo, as the family celebrated her birthday. ❤️🎂 After greetings, conversations and plenty of family gist, Onyii eventually left while different parts of the village came alive around them. When the rain finally stopped, Onyii and Ebere got into an interesting discussion about the culture and traditions of their community, while Chisom, Ifeoma, Mama and the little ones enjoyed the moment with laughter. Mummy Neme, Osondu’s wife, was also around, and together with Ebere, she gathered the yam and chicken that would be taken to the village square for the big celebration. 🌿 THE VILLAGE SQUARE While Ebere and the others headed towards the village square, Ifeoma, Chisom, Edu and the children stayed behind to prepare some food before joining the celebration later. As they walked through the village, they greeted fellow villagers along the way. By the time they reached the village square, the celebration was already beginning. People were gathering from different parts of the community. Traditional drums filled the air, people prepared firewood and made fires, while others brought everything needed to prepare the community feast. The yams were peeled and prepared, chicken was brought out, and the cooking began. Then the atmosphere changed completely! 🔥🥁 Masquerades appeared. Children sang, played and ran around the village square. People danced, laughed and celebrated, while the elders gathered to witness the traditional ceremony. Ifeoma later joined Ebere, Mummy Neme, Edu and the others, and everyone worked together to prepare the food for the entire community. The dishes prepared for the celebration included Ji Olulu, Ji Ahuruahu and Ukpaka sauce — traditional foods that brought everyone together around the same fire and the same table. But the celebration was about much more than food. There was dancing. There was drumming. There were stories. There was laughter. There were elders sharing traditions. And there was a beautiful moment when the village chairman asked the children an important question: How many families make up the village? Little Chibueze confidently answered, explaining that the first and oldest family is Umunakwa (Chime Ebi Family), followed by Amaugwu Family, Umuogene Family and Umuaba Family. His answer earned him money from some of his uncles! ❤️😂 Then came one of the most important moments of the celebration. 🌿 THE CUTTING OF THE NEW YAM The elders representing the four families gathered together to perform the traditional cutting and eating of the new yam. After the new yam was cut, the food and drinks were shared among the villagers. It was a beautiful reminder of the importance of family, community, tradition and gratitude for the harvest. Eventually, the main celebration came to an end and people began returning to their homes. But the sound of the drums did not completely stop. Some villagers continued playing the drums and enjoying themselves until late into the night. 🥁🌙 This is what makes village life so special — when one family celebrates, the whole community celebrates together. ❤️ Thank you for coming with us to experience this beautiful New Yam Festival.
