10th Adi Mising Bane Kebang Solung Celebration was jointly organized on September 19 and 20, 2026, at Kumbang village (Dhakuakhana, Dhemaji District, Assam). The event showcased vibrant traditional Ponung folk dances, music, and ethnic attire, drawing prominent leaders and public figures from both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
Solung Gidi (often phrased as Solung Gi:di Si:pi)refers to the grand celebration of the Solung Festival—the premier agricultural and socio-religious harvest festival traditionally celebrated by the Adi tribe of Arunachal Pradesh
When it is celebrated: Annually in early September, usually starting on September 1st, right after the sowing and transplantation of paddy.
Core Meaning:
Solung is a harvest and fertility celebration, while Gi:di means festivity or joy. People greet one another during this time with "Solung Gi:di em agampe" (Wishing you a joyous Solung festival).
Main Deities Worshipped:
Kine-Nane: The goddess of crops and food grains, prayed to for soil fertility and a bumper harvest.
Dadi-Bote: The god of the animal kingdom, invoked to protect and multiply domestic animals like mithuns and pigs.
Doying-Bote: The god of wisdom and weather.
Key Traditions:
Ponung Dance: Traditional, rhythmic group folk dances performed by women of all ages.
Miri (Shaman): The traditional priest/singer who chants the Solung Aabang (ancient rhapsodies and tribal history).
Community Bonding: Sharing local rice beer (Apong
"Solung Gidi Si:pi Adi Mising Bane Kebang," it refers to the community-wide joint celebration of the Solung festival organized under the banner of the Adi Mising Baane Kebang (AMBK).
Solung Gidi / Solung Gi:di: "Solung" is the festival itself, while "Gidi" or "Gi:di" means festival/celebration in the Tani (Adi/Mising) languages.
Si:pi / Sopi: Refers to Sopi-Yekpi (or Ardo-Bado), the crucial first phase and sacrificial day of the Solung festival, where offerings and sacrifices (traditionally mithuns and pigs) are dedicated to Dadi Bote, the god of domestic animals, to kickstart the festivities.
Adi Mising Bane Kebang (AMBK): The apex joint cultural and social council comprising members from both the Adi community of Arunachal Pradesh and the Mising community of Assam. Because both tribes share the same ancestral roots, language family, and historical migration paths, the AMBK organizes these joint festivals to preserve cultural heritage, foster brotherhood, and encourage cultural exchange between the two states
