…in search of songs turns inward, reaching for melodies that remain just out of reach. It was shaped by thoughts of an important teacher who, in her final days, seemed to carry music in memory as flickers. Harmonic fragments, romantic gestures, half remembered themes. Fragile recollection shapes the texture. It is fragmented and uncertain, but searching with care. Nothing is quoted directly. The references surface like memory does, refracted and altered by time. It forms the quiet center of The Art of Parties, a piece I composed during a period of returning to the piano without relying on virtuosity.
