EA Sports NHL '96 - All-star Exhibition WSH 2 v LAK 1 | The Capitals Squeak a Win in Los Angeles

The Washington Capitals were in Los Angeles to play the Kings in this latest exhibition mode all-star level game. The 1st period was a stalemate with the Capitals having the edge in shots but neither team able to score. Shots were WSH 14 and LAK 7. The 2nd period was more of the same with about the same shot differential at WSH 30 and LAK 16. The scoring started at about four-and-a-half minutes into the 3rd period with the hometown Kings taking the lead 1-0. Rick Tochett got the third rebound after two tries by Wayne Gretzky that Jim Carey stopped but Tochett finally beat him top-glove with the Washington defense nowhere to be found. Just 40 seconds later and Washington tied it up. Dmitir Kristich beat Kelly Hrudey top-glove the long way with a blind backhander from the edge of the circle at the hashes off a pass from Michal Pivonka from the bottom of the circle, Jim Carey with the second assist. The 3rd period was a battle after that with both teams getting chances. The game-winner came with just 11.9 seconds left when Dmitri Kristich scored with a hard backhander that beat Kelly Hrudey top-glove off another nice pass from Michal Pivonka after he made a great hit-and-steal off Marty McSorely at center-ice. The Kings didn't have enough time to respond and Washington won 2-1. Enjoy!
