Everyone Said This Bed Lift Would Work... It Didn't | S2:E3

One of the defining features of our purpose-built camper van is a DIY elevator bed that creates a large open living space during the day and lowers into place at night. On paper, everything looked right. We researched existing DIY bed lift designs, compared components, and selected a motor that many builders claimed was more than capable of lifting the bed. Then we tested it. It failed. Instead of hiding the failure, this episode documents the engineering process of figuring out why it happened. We recreate the problem, measure the loads, test different power sources, identify unexpected design constraints, and ultimately discover that the motor simply isn't capable of doing what our design requires. Sometimes the most valuable part of a DIY project isn't getting it right the first time—it's understanding why it didn't work.
