In today's video, I’ll be using the Xenophase Blade on the Tactical class in a True Solo Absolute run. Before this run, I did try using the Bolt Rifle with the Xenophase Blade, but I just wasn’t a huge fan of it whatsoever. When using Tactical Reserve, your Gunstrikes don’t have the AoE stagger they would with a secondary sidearm, and the Gunstrike damage is pretty poor as well. Most of the time, it felt like I was hitting the Tyranids with a water pistol. You're essentially using a Standard Issue Heavy Bolt Pistol, but it deals slightly less damage and has no AoE stagger. The Standard Issue HBP deals 93.9 per Gunstrike, but when you use Tactical Reserve, you deal 92.6 per Gunstrike since you have no perks on it. Personally, giving the sidearm AoE stagger when using Tactical Reserve wouldn’t be overpowered whatsoever. I also feel that giving it Relic-tier Heavy Bolt Pistol levels of Gunstrike damage wouldn’t make it overpowered in any way, since the Relic Ammo version of the HBP deals 150.3 per Gunstrike. The Tactical Reserve perk is actually pretty good. It’s just that when you’re using a Balanced or Fencing melee weapon, the sidearm you’re given doesn’t pair very well with those weapons, and most of the time, you’re better off dropping Tactical Reserve and running with a Secondary Sidearm instead, mainly for the Gunstrike damage and AoE stagger. Because of that, I decided to try this build, and I don’t know if I’m a fan of the Xenophase Blade on the Tactical class. One of the reasons the Xenophase Blade is so good on Bulwark and Assault is simply because those classes can animation cancel, whereas Tactical cannot. Since the attacks are fairly slow with the Xenophase Blade, you can sometimes get caught out, which can put you in a dangerous position. The damage is pretty good with Auspex, though. At times, while playing as a melee Tactical, you may run into quite a lot of ranged enemies, which can really ruin the experience. It can become a dodging simulator sometimes and completely take away from the fun of the game. I’m hoping Saber addresses the ranged spam at some point, although I’m not particularly optimistic that they will. Will I use the Xenophase Blade again? Probably not, though I will be trying out other melee weapons on the Tactical class. Secondary is the Heroic Bolt Pistol. Hope you enjoy the video!
