youtube.com@eyedoctorireland, eye doc @eyedoctorireland This video describes the different types of red eye, whether painless or associated with glare, blurred vision, pain, grittiness, burning, itching, foreign body sensation (FBS), swollen, crusty lids, eyelid lumps, eyes being stuck in the morning, watering, or thick, pus-like mucous discharge. It distiguishes between conditions which affect the conjuntiva (infective (bacterial, fungal, protozoal or viral), or allergic conjunctivitis (including vernal and atopic keratoconjuncitivits),) or includes the eyelids (blepharoconjunctivitis), the episclera (episcleritis) or the sclera (scleritis_) and those which are reactionary to inflammation within other structures within the eye, notably the cornea and or iris. This includes corneal injury (i.e., abrasion), punctate keratitis (often a reaction to preservatives or contact lenses), corneal infiltrate, marginal keratitis, or iritis (anterior uveitis). The video describes how each of these presents, can be diagnosed, and managed. It also describes conditions such as acute glaucoma and scleritis, which are typically very painful and need urgent eye specialist attention.
