Springfield, Massachusetts: Downtown Driving Tour (August, 2019)

Driving tour video of downtown Springfield, Massachusetts, possibly the hometown of 'The Simpsons'. The city was settled in 1636 and incorporated as a city in 1852. The current population is just over 155,000 with a metro total of just under 700,000. Seen in the video is Monarch Place, the tallest skyscraper in town. The office tower is 401 feet in height with 26 floors and was opened in 1987. Also seen, among many other landmarks, is the MassMutual Center. This venue opened in 1972 as the Springfield Civic Center. The arena seats 6,793 at home games for the AHL's Springfield Thunderbirds. This was an alternate home of the New England Whalers of the WHA and the Hartford Whalers of the NHL back in the late 1970's and early 1980's.
