Four Black fathers from Saginaw sit down to talk about what it really takes to raise a family with spirit, health, and intention. We came together like the Wu-Tang on this one.
Darrell owns a health store at the SVRC Marketplace. He recently married his business partner and is now raising older kids alongside the young ones he gained through marriage, stepping up for children who recently lost their father. Ankh walks a path of many spiritual practices, both Eastern and African, and is a brand new father learning to co-parent. Omar is a male doula, married, raising a teenage son and a younger son, and has kept his family plant-based in a community where that path is rarely championed. And Quazzy, a single father who works with kids and the community to shift perspective and build engagement.
Saginaw has been ranked among the least healthy counties in Michigan. These men are on a mission to change that narrative. This is a conversation about thriving as Black men, as fathers, and as brothers in a world that doesn’t always make room for that energy.
