This is the never before seen dashcam footage from inside my stolen Trackhawk. I finally edited all the clips together and decided to post it for your viewing pleasure. If you have any questions feel free to ask in the comments. Chase starts around 23:25.
On November 18, 2021, I returned from a work trip to Europe to discover that the rear window of my 2021 Jeep Trackhawk had been smashed but not fully broken, likely due to the window tint. I contacted my neighbor, who also owned a high-risk Scat Pack Challenger, and he mentioned noticing the damage a day earlier. I suspected an attempted theft.
A few hours later, I heard my Trackhawk’s distinct Borla exhaust start up and immediately realized they had come back for a second attempt. I rushed outside but only caught a glimpse of the taillights leaving the parking lot. I immediately called the Ann Arbor Police and activated the tracking device on my phone. Despite their advice to stay put and make a statement, I decided to follow the tracker in my fiancée’s car. If the thief took it to a chop shop, I planned to follow and notify the police before they could deactivate the tracker.
The thief stopped for gas but continued toward Detroit without filling up. I attempted to stop the vehicle remotely multiple times but only succeeded in setting off the alarm and flashing the lights, which visibly unsettled them. Based on what the suspect said in the dashcam footage, I think he thought it was a bait car—honestly, it might as well have been lol.
As the vehicle headed into Livonia, I contacted Livonia PD dispatch, who quickly coordinated with State Troopers. The chase began when they spotted the car, and I could hear updates through my phone call with dispatch. Eventually, the suspect fled on foot and was apprehended with the help of K-9 units and possibly a helicopter. The suspect was taken back to Washtenaw County for processing, but I’ve been unable to find any further updates on their fate in court records. For all I know, they got a slap on the wrist. I’m also unsure if any accomplices were ever apprehended.
When I went to pick up the vehicle, it was spitting oil out of the exhaust and misfiring—clearly not running on all cylinders. After reviewing the dashcam footage, I realized that the high-speed police chase—hitting 120+ mph—likely caused catastrophic engine failure, which ultimately ended the chase. The supercharged V8, pushing over 800 horsepower, had been running on fumes due to the thief’s failure to refuel, which likely led to fuel starvation at high RPMs, destroying the engine. This is just my theory.
Due to COVID-related supply shortages, replacing the engine would have taken six months. Instead, my insurance company paid me out exactly what I had originally paid for the vehicle, plus the value of the modifications. I no longer live at that apartment complex, and after this experience, I’ll probably never own a Hellcat-powered vehicle again—those cars are just too easy to steal.
If you'd like to use this video for a reaction, compilation, or to repost clips, go ahead—just be sure to credit me. My goal is to get as many eyes on this as possible to expose these thieves and their stupidity.
