The original Sri Venugopala Swamy Temple was built in the 12th century and was located in the old Kannambadi village. After the construction of the Krishna Raja Sagara (KRS) Dam, the original temple was submerged around 1930 and remained underwater for more than 70 years. When the reservoir water level dropped, the ancient temple would appear again.
