We’ve been learning about the interaction between Jesus and the Samaritan woman he met at a well. Last week Pastor Brian talked about how she left her water jar behind to share her testimony all over town, and today, we looked at the disciples’ reaction when Jesus tells them how he has a kind food they know nothing about. He told them, “My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 tells us the will of God involves rejoicing, praying, and giving thanks in all things, which may have been part of why he stopped to take a break at the well in the first place, putting him in a position to meet the Samaritan woman. But Jesus also discusses the idea of planting and harvesting: bringing people to eternal life. He called the disciples to wake up, to see the ripe harvest that was before them. And although others had already done the planting and harvesting where they were at (referring to the prophets from years ago), they would have the opportunity to harvest where they hadn’t planted. We can be encouraged in our own “spiritual gardening.” We may plant seeds and water them, and may never see the harvest, even though we’ve spent years pouring into people. But then, we may come across someone and be part of the harvest in them, bringing them to Christ and eternal life. Recorded 10/11/2026
