How to Write a Literature Review with AI: Step-by-Step Tutorial For Students

Free 13-day email course on doing your literature review faster with AI tools: https://effortlessacademic.com/free-l... AI is flooding every field with more papers than anyone can read, so the way you were taught to do a literature review (collecting and reading every paper) no longer works. So let's fight fire with fire. This video shows a new approach I call the detective mindset. Instead of reading every paper, you chase the ideas inside them and let AI do the discovery, filtering, and parts of the writing, while you craft the narrative and build understanding. I walk through the full seven-step workflow, from the research question to the finished write-up. I am Ilya Shabanov, and I run EffortlessAcademic.com to help academics be more productive with digital note-taking, research tools and AI. 🟩 Timestamps 00:00 Why conventional literature review advice fails in the age of AI 02:34 A better approach: The Detective Mindset 06:04 Step 1: Research Question 10:24 Step 2: Finding the First Paper 19:41 Step 3: Exploring The Reference Network 27:28 Step 4: Reading and Taking Topical Notes 37:29 Step 5: Tracking The Clues 40:52 Step 6: Closing the Loop 43:52 Step 7: Writing Up Your Findings 47:26 Summary 🟩 Watch These Next How I built a "Wikipedia" for my research in Obsidian (the note-taking system behind Step 4): →    • Obsidian Note-Taking System for Academics ...   What academics get wrong about AI and academic writing: →    • Is Using AI for Academic Writing Cheating?   🟩 Resources Mentioned The best AI tools for literature review in 2026 (Step 2): → https://effortlessacademic.com/the-be...
