We Moved Ourselves From Los Angeles to Charlotte, NC

We moved ourselves from Los Angeles to Charlotte, North Carolina. After 21 years in LA, it was finally time to pack the apartment, load the truck and drive our lives across the country. It did not go exactly according to plan. We were still finalizing our 66-page apartment lease while packing. Our departure kept getting pushed back. My car's AC couldn't be serviced before we left, which meant driving through Arizona in 115-degree heat without air conditioning. Then came a cracked windshield, nightly hotel searches for parking that could accommodate a moving truck with a car in tow, a very long drive through Tennessee—and torrential rain with almost no visibility as we crossed into North Carolina. And once we finally arrived in Charlotte, we still had to get an entire moving truck up to our third-floor apartment. This is the actual move: Los Angeles to Charlotte, one stop at a time.
