🙏 I LOST MY TEMPER… AND GOD HAD SOMETHING TO TEACH ME!
Have you ever had one of those moments when your emotions got the best of you? When your tongue moved faster than your heart? When you said something and afterward thought, "Lord, WHAT just happened?!"
Well, that was me last night.
And this morning, God met me right where I was.
☕ Grab your tea or coffee, find a quiet place, take a breath, and come spend some time with God.
❤️ GUARD YOUR HEART — PROVERBS 4:23
This morning, God led me to Proverbs 13:10 and Proverbs 4:23, reminding me that pride can lead to conflict and that we must guard our hearts because everything we do flows from them.
I started thinking about that bubble of ANGER.
Where did it come from? Why did I react the way I did?
And as I sat with God, asking WHY, one word came to me:
FATIGUE.
I was tired.
But then the questions kept coming.
How had I been using my tongue throughout the day? Had I been swearing? Had I been speaking words that build people up or words that tear them down?
Was I paying attention to what I was allowing into my heart and what was coming OUT of my mouth?
📖 THE BOOK OF JAMES — TAMING THE TONGUE
God led me into James, and I ended up reading the ENTIRE BOOK!
James chapter 3 really spoke to me about the power of our tongues.
Such a small part of our bodies, yet capable of creating so much destruction.
Our words can encourage, bless, love, and bring healing.
But they can also hurt, divide, discourage, and ignite anger.
And here's what I was reminded of:
We cannot spend our mornings praying for God to use our mouths and then spend the rest of our day forgetting what we prayed!
Our words matter.
The way we speak to our spouses, our children, our friends, strangers, and OURSELVES matters.
🌿 DON'T JUST KNOW THE GOOD — DO THE GOOD!
As I continued reading James, another truth really hit my heart.
James 4:17 reminds us that when we know the good we ought to do and fail to do it, that is sin.
WOW.
How often does God place something on our hearts, and we don't follow through?
We feel prompted to encourage someone, but we don't.
We see someone who needs help, but we're too busy.
We know we need to apologize, but our pride gets in the way.
We know we need to forgive, but we hold on to anger.
God isn't simply calling us to HEAR His Word. He's calling us to LIVE IT!
James 5 also reminds us of the importance of patience, prayer, and caring for one another.
And so this morning, I prayed that we would become people who don't simply talk about Jesus but actually LIVE like Jesus.
That we would guard our hearts, pay attention to our tongues, and take ACTION when God places something good before us.
🙌 AND THEN… I GOT DISTRACTED! HA!
I started praying over our bodies, inviting God to align our minds, eyes, ears, mouths, hearts, hands, and feet with Him.
And somewhere along the way, I got sidetracked and ended the prayer before I made it through the whole body!
ADHD anyone?! 😂
But that's the beauty of these morning prayers.
There is no script.
There is no perfect performance.
It's just me, my tea, my Bible, and GOD.
Learning. Growing. Being corrected. Being loved.
And inviting you to come along.
❤️ MY PRAYER FOR YOU TODAY
May we become aware of what is happening in our hearts BEFORE it spills out of our mouths.
May we recognize when we're tired, overwhelmed, frustrated, or angry.
May we pause before we react.
May the Holy Spirit help us speak words that IGNITE rather than destroy.
And may we become DOERS of God's Word, not just hearers.
Because knowing what is good is only the beginning. We have to DO the good!
