Lord, Lead the Way | A Personal Prayer Turned Into Song | 35 Years Kept

“Lord, Lead the Way” began as something much more personal than a song. It began as my morning prayer. I thanked God for allowing me to wake up another day sober. I asked forgiveness for my sins and asked Him to help me become a better man, husband, father and grandfather. I prayed for my wife, our families, those who are grieving, protection on the road, our future and whatever direction God has for our lives. I also prayed about 35 Years Kept—that God would use these songs and this channel to reach somebody who needs Him, even if I never know that it happened. One part of that prayer became the heart of this song: “Show me clearly where You want me to go. And if I can't understand it, just lead the way.” This isn't a prayer I invented to make a song. It is personal to me. It came from my heart during an ordinary morning before another day of work, and afterward I realized that prayer could stand on its own as a song. Most importantly, it ends the same way my prayers end—with the One who makes it possible for me to approach the Father. All these things I ask in Jesus Christ's name I pray. Amen.
