How do you know when your breast implant is ruptured

Saline implant ruptures are straight forward. They deflate, letting the saline water out. It is very obvious. Silicone gel implants have a less obvious course. We are currently on our 5th generation gel implants. The older generations had more of a liquid silicone component. Rupture of these old implants resulted in leakage of the silicone into the space around the implant. The new generation implants it is much less obvious due to the fact that the implants are highly cohesive gel. These implants are almost "form stable" in that if you cut it in half, you will have two pieces. The most common cause of a silicone implant rupture is during the surgery itself where it was accidentally damaged. Identifying this kind of damage requires a MRI.
