Miss Toyota Harvested: Why Sumi Is a Long-Term Game | N.I.J. | Ep #147

Ricky Stoddart shows Miss Toyota freshly harvested, at around 5.5 years old and expected to measure between 85 and 90 cm, after a year of strong sumi progress. He uses her to explain why that type of sumi in a Dainichi fish is a long-term project, and why judging fish at a year and a half or two years old is too short-term. He compares her with a customer's Kindai Showa at Toyota, still improving at 6 years old, then sorts a customer pond and picks out nisai to grow on more intensively, including one of his own offspring. There is a first major update on the Nogami fish: Kohaku from a £295 grow-out event, which have put on about 5 cm on average, and Showa from the Kazuto bloodline, or Kazuto and Dainichi Toyota. Toyota Pandora Hi Utsuri follow, and Ricky mentions an upcoming watch-along video of his Taniguchi selection. The Taniguchi Kawari are then brought in and viewed in the bowl. They include a red corn that he thinks is Gyokumi style, a Ginrin Ochiba, fish developing kanoko, Ginga and Kumonryu styles, and heavier Kikokuryu. Ricky also shows one unusual fish he is not selling, and asks viewers what they make of it. He finishes with the stocking level in the Kawari pond, where many customers have extended growing to the end of December.
