Romanov family visits the Ipatiev monastery in Kostroma (1913)

This is another video where we literally follow in the steps of the Romanovs, when we head over to the Ipatiev monastery in Kostroma. One of the main stops during the Romanov Dynasty Tricentennial progress, the ancient city of Kostroma and its monastery, was where the first Romanov tsar, the teenaged Mikhail Feodorovich was hiding out when he was elected to ascend the throne of Russia at the age of 16. I had the opportunity to visit the Ipatiev monastery 15 years ago. In this video, we will tour it together through 1913 footage of the imperial family's visit, as well as modern videos, to see what it looks like today. From Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna's 1913 diary: "Sunday. 19 May. About 10 in the morning, after passing through Kostroma, [we] stopped at the pier, about 12 miles from the Ipatiev monastery. The honorary guard of the Yerivan regiment, and further down everyone was lined up along the streets. I was so happy to see old friends... We were met by a procession and carried the icon to the cathedral with this procession, where obednya and moleben were held. Grigori Yefimovich was there, and all the relatives too. [We] went to a museum in Mikhail Feodorovich’s palace and returned at about 4 o’cl. Then [we] returned to the Ipatiev pier. At 8 o’cl. there was a big dinner in the 'Tsar Mikhail Feodorovich' dining hall. In the evening we 2 and Papa went to to the river bank to see the fireworks...
