Brian Wilson and Al Jardine of The Beach Boys perform Good Vibrations and Barbara Ann in Tivoli

On the 30th of June 2017 I was fortunate enough to see Brian Wilson and Al Jardine perform on the tour with the very memorable name “Pet Sounds: The Final Performances with Al Jardine & Blondie Chaplin Tour”, also known simply as “Pet Sounds 50th Anniversary World Tour”, which is both easier to remember and a lot less depressing... I remember it as being an evening with weather that was in no way suited for The Beach Boys, it was gray and rainy. And when Brian Wilson walked on the stage, he was more or less being carried to the piano, so I will admit that I was afraid this was going to be a bit of a disaster. But as soon as he sat behind the piano, he was in his element, and gave an energetic and joyful performance. Yet while the rest of the band was very energetic to look at, Brian just sat there with very little expression on his face. And that is why I was reminded of this evening when I saw the interview, because Harry talks about how he was a quite expressionless person. And Brian truly went through some shit in his life (to put it mildly) and it makes me a little bit sad that a man that has brought so much joy to the world did not really seem to experience that joy himself.
