Carnival Glass

GLASS ART How does a simple hobby become a fascinating history lesson? For me, learning about pressed glass called Carnival Glass was just such a lesson. Join me in this episode of ‘Adventures in Glass’ to learn more about this early 1900’s glass and watch as I show you how to identify “poor man’s Tiffany.” Two of the major producers of this type of glass were Fenton Glass and Northwood Glass. Each has a fascinating history and specific marks and designs, such as the Grape and Cable featured on this piece. Carnival glass was manufactured in several basic glass colors, with the addition of mineral salts to create the iridescent shine and rainbow effect, such as the featured black amethyst.
