Maharani Jind Kaur and Khalsa Raj Important Qisse || ਮਹਾਰਾਣੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਕੌਰ ॥ Dr. Sukhpreet Singh Udhoke
Maharani Jind Kaur (1817–1863) was the last queen of the Sikh Empire and the wife of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. She played a crucial role in the resistance against British rule after the death of her husband and the fall of the Khalsa Raj. As the regent for her young son, Maharaja Duleep Singh, she fiercely opposed British interference in Punjab. However, she was eventually imprisoned and exiled by the British, who saw her as a major threat.
The Khalsa Raj, or Sikh Empire, was established by Maharaja Ranjit Singh in 1799 and lasted until 1849. It was a powerful and secular state in northern India, known for its military strength, efficient administration, and religious tolerance. The empire reached its peak under Ranjit Singh but declined after his death, leading to its annexation by the British after the Anglo-Sikh Wars.
