Listen in on the PMP Pals Network's Clinical Presentation with Elizabeth Godfrey, MD - Yale School of Medicine with the DECISIVE Study Update. Last year, a team of peritoneal surface malignancy and cancer researchers at Yale launched the DECISIVE study to comprehensively characterize the decision-making experiences of individuals and their caregivers considering cytoreductive surgery. Over 140 people with cancer and care partners including many from PMP Pals generously gave their time and energy to sharing their PMP and related cancer journeys, going beyond clinically-oriented outcomes like complications and costs, to shine a light on experiences like the struggles of self-advocacy in obtaining a diagnosis, the challenges of finding a medical team, the work needed to prepare and recover for surgery, and how it affected day-to-day lives and priorities. After a year of analysis, the YALE team is pleased to present updates on their findings ahead of submission for publication and a look ahead to what comes next for the DECISIVE team as they work to build decision aids and resources for individuals and their loved ones considering cytoreductive surgery and the clinicians caring for them.
