Learn how to teach a collage self portrait step by step in your classroom! In this lesson, students create a portrait of themselves using cut paper, layering, and creative expression—no pressure for perfect drawing required.
✂️ What Students Will Learn:
What a collage is (cutting + gluing to create art)
How to build a self portrait using shapes
How to add details and personality to their artwork
How to use layering and composition
⏱️ Time Expectations:
Adults: about 30–45 minutes
Students (elementary classroom): about 3 class periods (45 minutes each)
(Based on a class size of ~25–30 students)

Construction paper (skin tones + colors/patterns)
Scissors
Glue
Mirrors
Markers or acrylic paint markers
