How to Sew a Tote Bag | Easy DIY Tutorial for Beginners🤍

Hi everyone! 🤍 In this tutorial, I’m sharing a sturdy and professional-looking tote bag using the sewing techniques I’ve learned from my experience making tote bags. The way the straps are attached makes the bag strong enough to carry heavier items without the straps coming loose. I also used a French seam, which gives the inside edges a clean and professional finish without needing a serger or a zigzag stitch. 🎀If you’re a beginner: 1. You can use ready-made straps to make the sewing process easier and skip some of the steps. 2. Sewing the pocket might feel a little difficult at first, so I recommend practicing the pocket once before making the pocket for your tote bag. 3. If you’re still having trouble sewing in a straight line, use a heat-erasable pen to mark your sewing line and sew slowly. 👀A few important tips: ✨ I added a thin layer of fusible interfacing to the main fabric to give the tote bag more structure. If your fabric feels too soft, don’t worry — you can add interfacing too. ✨ After attaching the inner bag lanyard, I noticed that attaching something heavy, like keys, could pull that corner of the bag inward and affect the shape. So I recommend attaching the lanyard directly underneath one of the straps. ✨ When sewing the edges of the bag, make sure to use a backstitch at the beginning and end of your seams. ✨ Pressing your fabric throughout the sewing process makes a big difference and helps achieve a much cleaner and more polished final look.
