Goodyear Blimp: Zeppelin Over Veluwe!

On a sunny summer day, a rare blimp could be seen doing research over Kootwijk, The Netherlands. Kootwijk is a small village in the heart of the Veluwe, one of the Netherlands’ best-known natural regions, characterized by extensive forests, heathlands, wildlife, and drifting sand landscapes. One of its most remarkable features is the Kootwijkerzand, the largest active drifting-sand area in Western Europe, covering roughly 700 hectares. The landscape developed partly as a result of medieval deforestation, which exposed the sandy soil to the wind. Then, today's subject. Zeppelin LZ N07-101, registered D-LZFN, is a modern Zeppelin NT airship operated by Deutsche Zeppelin-Reederei. Its history is unusual: the airship was originally built as the second Zeppelin NT, serial number 002, and first entered service as an LZ N07-100 registered D-LZZR. In 2004 it was sold to Japan, where it flew as JA101Z under the name Yokoso! Japan. After returning to Germany, the airship was rebuilt and modernized, and in 2015 it was upgraded to the LZ N07-101 configuration and received the registration D-LZFN. The Zeppelin NT is a semi-rigid airship approximately 75 meters (246 feet) long, designed for passenger flights, sightseeing, and promotional operations. The N07-101 version can carry up to 16 passengers and represents a modern continuation of the Zeppelin tradition that began in Germany more than a century ago.
