Four years after her first two interviews, Paitin Fields' sister, now 11, told the same forensic interviewer she woke up and "saw him come from the couch all the way up to his bedroom." The jury hears that 2022 tape in this Part. Then the defense asks what changed.
Paitin Fields was five when she was rushed to the emergency room in Burgaw, North Carolina, in November 2017. Her uncle, David Prevatte, was named a suspect in 2018 and charged in 2022. He is presumed innocent. The State gave notice on Feb. 9 that it will not seek the death penalty, StarNews reported.
On cross, Luther Johnson Britt III draws out that before the second interview the team told Savannah someone may have hurt her sister, that she identified no one in 2018, and that she never said she saw him do anything. The 2022 referral came on "new or additional information" that no one in this Part names.
Here is what I want you to weigh: a memory that finally came out, or an account shaped by four years and by what she had been told?

0:19:31 to 0:22:52 - "My sister." Then: "I don't remember anything."
0:22:52 to 0:26:23 - When she woke up: her Uncle Boo Boo "coming from the couch back to his room." "I told you this before."
0:26:23 to 0:28:59 - "Saw him come from the couch all the way up to his bedroom." She heard nothing. "No, I just woke up."
0:28:59 to 0:37:05 - The rest of the night as she tells it, then the photos of the house.

0:51:38 to 0:56:31 - Over a defense objection: those who abuse children are "almost always known and trusted."
0:56:31 to 1:02:01 - Cross by Luther Johnson Britt III: how the Carousel Center works.
1:02:01 to 1:08:37 - November 2017: "she did not know what happened to Paitin."

1:18:30 to 1:20:51 - Nothing in his hands, no fourth interview planned.
