Mozart: Piano Sonata No.11 in A Major, K.331 – I｜モーツァルト：ピアノ・ソナタ K.331 第1楽章

─── A piano sonata whose first movement is not in sonata form? Mozart begins K.331 with something quite different: a theme followed by six variations. Today, Piano Sonata No.11 in A Major, K.331 is especially famous for its final movement, the “Alla Turca” or “Turkish March.” But its first movement is just as remarkable. A graceful Andante theme is gradually transformed through six variations. The rhythm, texture and relationship between the two hands continually change, while the original musical idea remains beneath each transformation. One variation moves into A minor, suddenly casting a shadow over the elegant atmosphere before the music returns to the major mode. The entire sonata follows an unusual sequence: variations, a minuet, and finally the famous Turkish-style finale. Before the “Turkish March,” there is another fascinating side of K.331. Remember the opening theme—and listen for how Mozart continually reinvents it. ─── Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Piano Sonata No.11 in A Major, K.331 I.
