🎬 Filmy Discussion: What Is the Real Purpose of a Film? In this video, I discuss the newly released short film “Sareechk” by Sait Khalil, which has received criticism from many viewers. As a Mass Communication student, I look beyond the film simply as entertainment and discuss a bigger question: What is the purpose of cinema? Is a film only meant to entertain, or should it also deliver a message and make people think? In this discussion, I share examples from Bollywood, Hollywood, and the Persian/Iranian film industry. We explore different perspectives of filmmakers and actors—for example, the idea that cinema can be primarily for entertainment, while another perspective argues that films should carry a social message or contribute to social change. Iranian/Persian cinema also offers the idea that a film should raise questions rather than simply provide answers. 🎥 My Perspective According to me, film is a powerful communication tool. Not everyone is interested in politics. Not everyone watches the news or follows political debates. But people watch stories. They connect with characters, emotions, conflicts, and fictional worlds. That is why fiction can become a powerful way of communicating an idea or message. For me, a story becomes successful when people watch it, read it, discuss it, and react to it. What they think afterward—whether they simply enjoy it, question its logic, disagree with it, or even experience some kind of social change—is ultimately part of the audience's response. The filmmaker creates the story; the audience gives it meaning. So, is “Sareechk” only entertainment? Does it have a deeper message? Is it logically strong? And should every film be responsible for creating social change?
