Collecting chicken eggs is the heart of every day on our chicken farm. Welcome to Maia 33 Farm, a 10,000-hen layer farm in rural Vietnam. In this video we take you through one full day of our work: feeding the hens at dawn, collecting chicken eggs by hand, sorting and cleaning the eggs, and selling them.
Feeding our hens. Before sunrise, our team tears open bags of layer feed in the feed store, fills the steel carts and pushes them into our long chicken houses. Bowl by bowl we pour the feed into the troughs, and row after row of hens lean out to eat until every trough is full.
Collecting chicken eggs. In the afternoon the eggs roll down into the egg trough in front of each cage. We walk the long aisles and pick up every egg by hand: the first egg, the first full tray, then trays stacked on the trolley until the cart is full and is pushed to our egg room, where the trays stand in tall rows.
Sorting and cleaning our eggs. In the egg room we check every tray. Dirty eggs are wiped one by one with a damp cloth, clean eggs go into new trays, and the trays are stacked into columns ready for sale.
Selling second-grade eggs. Cracked and dirty eggs are kept apart, checked again and sold to a local buyer, who ties the trays onto her motorbike and rides away down the village road.
Keeping our farm clean. We sweep the aisles every day, brush the dust off the big ventilation fans and sweep the feed store clean. You will also see our rooster row and the water tanks that keep the whole flock supplied.
At the end, take a look at the duck farm we visited: harvesting duck eggs from 5,000 laying ducks every morning on a riverside farm.
Thank you for spending a day with us on our chicken farm. Subscribe to Maia 33 Farm to follow our daily farm life.
