Pour Minds | Episode 417: Ooh Lord ft. Kirk Franklin

This week, Lex P and Drea Nicole welcome a true legend to the Pour Minds couch! Grammy Award-winning gospel artist, producer, songwriter, and author Kirk Franklin joins the girls for a conversation that spans generations, music, faith, relationships, and everything in between. From the impact of classics like “Stomp” and “Revolution” to his latest project, Kirk reflects on his career, the evolution of gospel music, and what it means to create music that brings people together, even when they come from completely different backgrounds. The conversation gets real as Kirk opens up about navigating criticism from the church, being judged for his appearance, and the expectations placed on people who publicly represent their faith. Lex P and Drea also get into religious trauma, the weaponization of Christianity, and the growing conversation around influencers using religion for the wrong reasons. Kirk shares his perspective on having a personal relationship with God, giving people room to grow, and why faith shouldn't be used as a reason to judge others. And of course, we couldn't have Kirk Franklin on Pour Minds without getting into some relationship talk! The three discuss modern dating, the ongoing gender wars, what men and women expect from each other, and the difference between someone's potential and their reality. Kirk offers a different perspective on what it means to be open to love, recognizing a person's worth, and giving people the opportunity to show up as their best selves. Plus, we get into the story behind the music, plenty of laughs, a little preaching, and a few moments that prove no topic is off limits on this couch! Pour up and tune in! Ready to be seen?
