In an age of grimdark epics and shocking, nihilistic endings, what if a story's greatest strength wasn't its power to break you, but its power to put you back together?
This is the question at the heart of my Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood review. On the surface, FMAB has all the hallmarks of a dark, tragic story: body horror, genocide, and deep philosophical dread. But my experience with it was different. In 2025, this classic anime didn't feel like a relic of the past; it felt like a radical and necessary antidote. This video essay explores how FMA:B uses its foundation of wholesome moments, its unflinching look at darkness, and its powerful theme of found family to earn one of the most cathartic and hopeful endings in modern storytelling. It’s not just "peak fiction"—it’s a story that heals.
