In 1833, they loaded about 180 tons of ice onto the Tuscany for India. No refrigerated hold. Roughly four months around Africa. How much of that ice would Rogers actually get ashore? Follow the cargo from Boston to Calcutta (now Kolkata), through its packing, inspections and tropical crossings. The original 1833 voyage report supplies the evidence for this unlikely delivery. Photographs are cropped/composited/animated; archive excerpts are reencoded and muted. The Mary Scott painting supplies a transparent paper-cut map marker, not an authenticated Tuscany portrait. Later ice-harvest images illustrate methods. Packing and gauge views are qualitative reconstructions. The temperature sequence follows logged outside-air observations; the ship’s slower response is explained with hold-state labels. The route joins published fixes, not a continuous GPS track.
