Continuing from our last video on 2 Types of Backwards Crossovers/Crossunders (watch that one first!), we are showing how both types can be used for lateral motion on the track.
Personally, I feel more stability and control when I keep one foot down in my cross under motion across the track. BUT I feel more speed and explosiveness when I lift both to get where I want to go. I use both frequently and don’t really think about what I’m using when I use it. I practice both and whatever happens happens. ;-) Let me know which version is your favorite.
If you want to play modern roller derby, it’s all about your ability to get from Point A to Point B on the track as fast as you can in control of your body. You need speed and explosiveness but you ALSO need stability and control. We aren’t flinging our bodies around willy nilly! ;-) Play with both of these and figure out what works well for you.
Off Skates Warm Up:
Good Mornings - Straight back, chest up, hands lightly touching legs, engage the glutes to pull your body back up
Leg Lifts - Another great way to engage the glute muscles, make them feel awake and ready for action so they can do the work.
Derby love to Bout_Betties!
