Master student Raisa Bruna Cardoso Mota's lecture "O canto, o conto: um olhar sobre a composição de ‘The Dead’, por James Joyce". Music is a fundamental element in James Joyce’s work. In this session, we will explore how Joyce uses musical elements in the composition of the text, as well as examine how the songs “Oh, Ye Dead!” and “The Lass of Aughrim” structure the short story "The Dead" and contribute to the construction of meanings related to memory. Raisa Bruna Cardoso Mota is a master’s student in the Graduate Program in English Language and Literature Studies at the University of São Paulo and is affiliated with the W. B. Yeats Chair of Irish Studies in the area of Literary Contacts. Under the supervision of Professor Mariana Bolfarine, her research focuses on Irish literature and songs in relation to James Joyce’s Ulysses. She is the creator of TradDesk, a partnership between Comhaltas Brasil and the W. B. Yeats Chair dedicated to promoting artistic work and research in Irish Studies through discussions guided by songs, with monthly sessions held at AUCANI–USP. She is also a member of the musical group Blooming Rovers, which explores the dialogue between literature and traditional Irish music through a repertoire centered on Ireland’s musical heritage. The group made its debut at the opening of Casa Europa during FLIP 2026. The event “Encontro com os Estudos Irlandeses” is an initiative of the W. B. Yeats Chair of Irish Studies, aiming to promote discussions on contemporary topics in the field of Irish Studies based on the research conducted by graduate students from the Graduate Program in English Language and Literary Studies (FFLCH/USP). https://catedrawbyeats.fflch.usp.br/e...
