Who is Zinda Pir, and why do people along the Indus River still believe he is alive? In this video on Rohail Voice, we go into one of the most mysterious stories of Sindh. Between Sukkur and Rohri, right in the middle of the Indus River, there is a small island with an old shrine linked to Khwaja Khizr, known locally as Zinda Pir. For centuries, boatmen, farmers and travelers called his name before crossing the river. Here’s what we talk about: Where the words “Hindu”, “Hindustan” and “India” actually come from (it all starts with “Sindhu”) Why Khwaja Khizr became the guardian of the river in Sindhi belief The meaning of green clothes, fish and water in the Zinda Pir story How Muslims and Hindus both honoured the same figure, as Khwaja Khizr and Jhulelal (Udero Lal) The old tradition of floating lamps and paper boats on the river The belief around crocodiles at Mango Pir What Islamic sources actually say, and which parts are culture and folk tradition, not religion We tried to keep this video honest and balanced. It’s not about spreading superstition. It’s about understanding the history, culture and beliefs of the Indus River people as they are.
