This isn’t just another event, it’s a Badminton Grassroots qualifier, and there’s a little more riding on this one than usual. Winnie is particularly special to me because I bred her myself, and her mum Jamelia is the horse who has taken me on some of the biggest adventures of my life. Jam has already secured her qualification for Badminton, which means there is now a slightly crazy possibility on the table… Could I qualify mother AND daughter for Badminton at the same time?! First, we actually have to get there. Frickley is a stayaway show, which you all know makes for some of my favourite eventing vlogs. We’ve got the full road trip, getting Winnie settled in, sleepover antics, plenty of behind the scenes and then the small matter of three phases the following day. And they certainly weren’t giving the qualification away easily. We had some BIG jumping tracks to tackle, and with every phase counting towards that final result, there was plenty of pressure. Winnie has come such a long way from the little homebred foal running around our fields, and producing her into an event horse has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. Whatever happened at Frickley, getting to this point already felt pretty special. But could she actually pull it off and join her mum on the road to Badminton?
