Dhap Dam is a 24-meter-high concrete-faced rockfill dam in Bagmati Province, Nepal, designed to store 850,000 cubic meters of water and support the Bagmati River’s flow during dry seasons. Dhap Dam is located in Gokarneshwor Municipality-1, Kathmandu District, within the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, approximately 26 kilometers northeast of Kathmandu (27.805765°N, 85.4534783°E) at an elevation of 2,067 meters above sea level. It was constructed as part of the Bagmati River Basin Improvement Project (BRBIP), funded by the Asian Development Bank, to enhance water security, improve river water quality, and maintain environmental flows in the Bagmati River during dry periods. Dhap Dam is a popular destination for hiking and nature tourism. The hike starts from Sundarijal, passing through Mulkharka Village and Haibung, offering scenic views of forests, streams, and the Kathmandu Valley. The trail is moderate to difficult, taking 4–6 hours round trip, and requires a permit from Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park (NPR 100 for Nepali citizens, NPR 1,000 for foreigners) with a licensed guide for non-Nepali visitors.
