More than 100,000 pilgrims. One desert plain. One final message. This is the story of the Farewell Sermon at Arafat — the last sermon of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, delivered in the 10th year after the Hijrah.
He declared that life, property, and honour are sacred. He abolished usury and blood revenge, beginning with his own family. He proclaimed that no Arab is superior to a non-Arab, and no white person to a black person, except by piety. He entrusted men with the rights of women, and left the community two anchors that would never fail: the Book of Allah and his Sunnah. And then he asked the crowd three times: "Have I conveyed the message?"
That day, the verse descended: "This day I have perfected for you your religion" (Surah Al-Ma'idah 5:3). The sermon never ended — it became a trust, passed from hand to hand, from Arafat to you.
