HISD WINTER WEATHER UPDATE: SCHOOLS CLOSED MONDAY

Superintendent Mike Miles gives an important update regarding the approaching winter storm impacting Houston this weekend. After extensive consultation with local meteorologists, as well as our district’s facilities and maintenance teams, we have made the decision to close all HISD schools and facilities on Monday, January 26. Meteorologists are forecasting a significant risk of an ice storm beginning late Saturday, possibly through Sunday and into Monday morning, creating hazardous travel conditions for our students, staff, and families, combined with dangerously low temperatures. We understand that families need time to plan and prepare. In an effort to be proactive and to prioritize the well‑being of our community, the district leadership team and I have made the decision to close Monday out of an abundance of caution. Any updates or additional information will be shared through ParentSquare, HISD Now, our website at HoustonISD.org, and our official district social media channels. We will inform families by Sunday regarding the status of schools for Tuesday, January 27. Please take every precaution to stay safe and warm throughout the weekend. Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
