Shooting this film felt fluid in a way I didn't expect. The size of the Pocket 4P removes a lot of limitations. You see something, you pull it out of your pocket, and you're rolling. That still feels a bit futuristic to me. It's a filmmaker's dream for this kind of travel work, where the best moments don't wait for you.
Settings for the whole film:
24 fps
D-Log 2
ISO set manually, between 200 and 1600
WHAT I LEARNED
With the variable ND I started with, the 60mm lens was basically unusable. I switched to DJI's official fixed ND filters and the problem went away. If you're planning to shoot the tele lens in daylight, skip the variable ND and go fixed.
THE PROCESS
There was no script at the start. We shot what we lived: setting up camp, walking empty beaches. The story came together in the edit, and the narration came last, once I understood what the trip had actually meant.
The on-screen text carries the facts. The voice carries the feeling.
GEAR:
DJI Osmo Pocket 4P (all ground footage)
DJI Mini 5 Pro (aerial shots)
COLOUR
Graded from D-Log 2. My LUTs for the Pocket 4P.
