Death of a Spaceman is one of the oldest ideas in Star Citizen, and it's still part of the plan for 1.0. Pretty much nobody talks about it anymore, though. Chris Roberts first laid it out back in 2013: your character doesn't live forever. Every time you die and wake up in a medbay, it takes a toll, and after enough deaths your body just gives out for good. Then you pick up as a new character, the beneficiary you named, and you inherit part of what the old one left behind.
In this video I go through what CIG has said about Death of a Spaceman, how it's supposed to work with medical imprints, permanent injuries, and inheritance, and why I think it could be the thing that makes dying in Star Citizen actually mean something. I also get into what could go wrong if they get the balance wrong, and whether players really want permadeath once they own a hangar full of ships.
So I want to know where you're at. Would you play Star Citizen with permadeath, or is this the one feature you hope they quietly drop? Let me know in the comments.
