#americanfairways #golf #documentary PING just blew up the golf market again: its eye-tracking Scottsdale TEC putter won the United States Open Championship at Shinnecock Hills in its first season. Here's how a garage putter built by a General Electric engineer in 1959 started it all. Karsten Solheim couldn't putt, so he measured why. In his Redwood City garage he built the PING 1A - the putter that rang only when you hit the middle - then drew the Anser on a record sleeve in an Arizona garage, survived a putter ban, fitted irons to golfers' bodies with the color code, and took the rule makers to court over the Eye 2's grooves. This year his grandson's company put Tobii eye-tracking glasses on golfers, and Wyndham Clark two-putted from about fifty feet on the 72nd hole to win. The story of the measurement nobody else in golf would take - and what it put in your bag. Do you still have a PING in your bag or your garage? Tell us in the comments which one, who gave it to you, and where you're watching from.
