Mickey Mouse's fifth short, and the third designed with synchronized sound in mind, showcased how perfect the combination of animation and music could be, a concept that would be further explored in the "Silly Symphony" series and the masterpiece "Fantasia." "The Opry House" is notable for introducing Mickey's signature white gloves in animation, which had previously been seen in title cards and posters before ever appearing in motion.
#MickeyMouse is running a vaudeville show at the local Opry House, doubling as an usher and performer in this music-filled extravaganza. After a musical symphonic overture, Mickey entertains a packed crowd by impersonating a snake charmer, dressing in drag and performing a belly dance, doing a caricature of a Hasidic Jew, and finishing with a piano performance of Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 by Franz Liszt.
"The Opry House" further improved the quality of Mickey's musical shorts, and it came at a higher cost than even "Steamboat Willie." However, Walt Disney would spend even more on introducing another series later in 1929, the "Silly Symphony." Aside from appearing on a poster in an early shot, Minnie Mouse is absent from this short.
