🌀 GARAN — 伽藍 | Japanese Zen Music for Mindfulness & Inner Strength What stands across the courtyard from this veranda is one great hall, its tiled roof rising in two tiers with the corners of the eaves turned up against a flat grey sky, the timber beneath it dark with age and weather — and to either side of it, low white plastered walls and the smaller roofs of the rest of the compound, rank behind rank, none of them built to be looked at. Coming down evenly out of that high overcast, the daylight throws no shadow and picks out nothing in particular, so the raked gravel of the courtyard stays the brightest thing in sight while the old pines at both edges and the deep eaves overhead stay dark.
