Spontaneous Style Sessions Am I the only one who randomly ends up in my closet in the middle of the night—or at any random time—exploring, rediscovering, trying things on and putting together different ensembles? Sometimes it starts with one specific item I remember I own, want to wear, see or feel. Next thing you know, I’m pulling and combining pieces and hours have passed. I know I’m not the only one… LOL! The other night I remembered that I own this vibrant red, 100% silk one-piece pantsuit. The color caught my peripheral while I was driving in L.A. traffic a few years ago. Obviously, I pulled over. That’s how brilliant and vibrant it looked, hanging on someone’s fence in the sun and blowing in the wind. When I realized it was a one-piece, I got excited. Discovering that it was actually silk—not nylon, rayon or polyester—was the icing on the cake. And it was a size large, increasing the likelihood of a good fit. I want to say I paid $5! I rarely carry cash. That’s how I know it was fate. When I first tried it on, I couldn’t button the top buttons. I love that today I can. I’d actually considered giving it to my sister or investing in tailoring/alterations. Looking at it now has me more excited than before. That’s what I mean by discovering and rediscovering. This piece is a gem! It has oversized inverted-pleat, cargo/safari-esque front pockets, along with large side and back pockets. The silhouette is a beautiful juxtaposition of feminine and masculine styling: a workwear-inspired silhouette in sensual silk and captivating color. The cinched waist and draping of the sleeves and legs add femininity. My only concern now is the strength of the silk and how well it will wear in motion. Guess what? The video ain’t even about the jumpsuit! The jumpsuit called for these dark-wash denim Sergio Rossi Godiva pointed-toe stiletto pumps. Once they entered the chat, they took over the whole conversation. When I tried on the suit and decided to snap a shot, this was the first shoe that came to mind. Plus, they were already off the shelf and in eyesight because I’d recently been experimenting with moleskin placement and interior padding to make them more comfortable. Which brings me to my point. First of all, the combination is excellent, if I do say so myself. The pant silhouette with a classic pump—but this pump is DENIM. That’s what makes this shoe special to me. I probably wouldn’t have bought it otherwise. It is the denim for me! Always has been and always will be. As much as I love saturated color and prints, I love denim. It’s nostalgic and classic for me. Versatile. Sturdy. Crisp. Clean. Fresh. The only issue? The comfort level… My eyes are telling me yes.
