Baker’s Bend Viewpoint at Nonpareil Estate Reaching this famous bend is an adventure on its own. The journey follows an 11-kilometer rugged estate road filled with sharp curves that appear every few hundred meters. Within this short stretch, the road climbs more than 900 meters in elevation, making the drive both thrilling and scenic. Although the road passes through a private estate, visitors are still allowed to travel along it. Situated at about 1,530 meters (5,000 feet) above sea level, the viewpoint offers spectacular panoramic scenery. On clear days, the mountain ranges of Balathuduwa, Gommolikanda, and Adarakanda can be seen stretching across the horizon to the left. Looking to the right, the shimmering waters of the Samanala Wewa and Udawalawe Reservoir appear in the distance, creating a truly breathtaking landscape. For hiking enthusiasts, the 4.5-kilometer walk from the estate entrance along the winding road provides an exciting uphill journey with beautiful views around almost every corner. Visitors who prefer not to hike can reach the bend by vehicle, though a vehicle with high ground clearance is recommended due to the rough road conditions. The best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon, when the views are usually clearest. During the dry season from December to April, the scenery is especially stunning, as mist often covers the area by midday. It’s also important to remember that although this bend leads toward the Great World’s End of Horton Plains, the area beyond the estate boundary belongs to Horton Plains National Park. Entering the park without proper permission is not allowed, and anyone caught by park authorities may face a fine of Rs. 50,000. Nonpareil Estate Falls Height: ~45 meters District: Ratnapura The Nonpareil Estate Waterfall is a beautiful waterfall located within the Nonpareil Estate in the Ratnapura District, along the route that leads toward Horton Plains National Park. Standing at approximately 45 meters in height, the fall is surrounded by lush greenery and the scenic landscapes of the estate. As the stream flows through the estate’s mountainous terrain, it creates several small cascades, many of which remain unnamed. Among them, the most prominent is the Nonpareil Estate Falls, which can be clearly seen from the estate road leading toward Horton Plains. This waterfall flows down the rocky slope in three distinct tiers, creating a picturesque cascade that adds to the natural beauty of the area. Visitors traveling along the estate road often stop to admire the fall and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of the tea estate landscape. #travel #srilanka #nature #hike #waterfall #viewpoint
